Wild Ways to Give Thanks (Safely)

As boredom sinks in through the nine-day Thanksgiving break (approximately 244 hours and 45 minutes), playing with fire and trying out your baking skills using cheese and raspberries seem to become the only ways to entertain yourself.

Luckily, there are a better activities people can do to occupy themselves.

Austin Turkey Trot

This five mile run in Austin  raises money for Caritas of Austin, an organization that has been fighting poverty, homelessness and hunger for nearly 40 years. The timed race will begin at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, and the one mile walk begins immediately after the five mile race begins. This event, hosted at the Long Center, is the largest five mile run in Texas, so go out and do something healthy and helpful this Thanksgiving day.

This well known concert spot will be hosting several bands through the Thanksgiving break. Known for hosting famous groups and popular local bands, the White Rabbit is a break from the normal this holiday season.

The Riverwalk

A classic to many residents in San Antonio, the Riverwalk and many of its coinciding restaurants will be open on Thanksgiving Day. The Hard Rock Cafe, Cafe Ole, the Lone Star Cafe, and the Republic of Texas all have great Thanksgiving menus and prices. Also, the Ford Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony takes place on November 25, from 7 pm-10 pm along the Riverwalk. Drop by and see the lighting in person, instead of on the television at home, as bands and celebrities will dawn the illuminated floats.
