Aquatics Dominate Meet

The pool lanes were filled with swimmers warming up preparing for the challenges at hand. Jan. 7 the Aquatics team traveled to the George Block Natatorium in NISD for the first meet of the year.

Some had been preparing since the night before with personal rituals to have a successful swim.

“I like to go for a run the night before so I can get ready…prepare my stuff…and just try to have a good mind set!” junior Yazmine Lainez said.

Others focused on the details of their diets and sleep.

“I like to get a goodnight’s rest and eat pasta or chicken to get carbs and protein,” senior Tanner Winget said.

The tweaks paid off for the dedicated athletes. Klaire Johnson placed 2nd in Girls 50 backstroke division with a time of 32:32 seconds and Bella Garza placed 3rd in Girls 100 meter breastroke with a time of 1:18.41.

The boys dominated in the 200 meter IM, Tanner Winget placed 1st with a time of 2:03.06 , then Thomas Jones came in 2nd at 2:03.53 and Jonathan Jones by seconds came in 3rd at 2:11.53. As well as in the Boys 50 meter breast stroke with Thomas Jones speedily taking 1st with a time of 28.84 seconds and Kevin McGinty coming in 3rd at 32.03 seconds.

Even after the tournament, some of the swimmers were pondering how they could improve for the next meet.

“I can definitely improve on more of my technique while swimming and my turns during my strokes,” senior Klaire Johnson said.

The Aquatics team’s next meet will be on Feb. 3rd & 4th, at Districts.
