Last night, the whole world anxiously awaited the results of the 2012 presidential election and Obama raked in 303 electoral college votes winning the presidency.

With a two percent difference in support for each candidate dividing the country, it’s no surprise people weren’t exactly thrilled their party of preference lost.

“I think this was a crucial election year,” Jessica Weiner (11) said. “I’m very disappointed with the results.”

Since the difference was so small, it was a nail-biter on both sides until California sealed the vote in favor of the democratic party 303- 206.

“I was nervous about last night’s election, but at the end it was decided and hopefully things will get better for this country,” Hans Escobar (12) said.

Though Obama and Romney were neck and neck all night, there was a quiet air of confidence in democratic party supporters.

“I felt pretty confident that Obama was going to win because of the audience he targeted,” Miranda Arellano (12) said, “but I was still nervous it was close.”

The internet was a battle zone before, during, and after the election with people from both parties either lashing out, congratulating, or whining about the outcome.

“The election was a lot more vocal this year, especially from the teens,” Emma Armstrong (10) said. “Normally we don’t have a say, but I think social media platforms like Twitter made a difference. Now it’s easier to get your opinion out there and for your voice to be heard.”

Obama supporters were pleased and look forward to four more years, but regret the tension that came between the two parties.

“I was really pleased with the outcome and hope Obama continues and what he’s already started,” Connor McInerney (11) said. “It sucks the school was so divided though.”
