Dance goes to Broadway

After ending the season with a success, placing third overall at nationals, Dance will continue to grow as performers by going to New York on Apr. 25 to experience different dance styles and work with Broadway dancers.

“Nationals was a team bonding experience for us,” junior Amiya Ward said. “We were friendly with each other, but we grew closer and learned how we need to improve skill and dynamic wise.”

The team got to spend their free time at Nationals, that was held in Fort Worth, by going to Six Flags, Rainforest Cafe, Medieval Times; all in all having fun and bonding with each other.

“I’d love to go again for the experience,” sophomore Elie Zinsmeister said. “It would be fun to compete and try to do better and get jackets.”

Because high school dance doesn’t translate the same into the working world, Dance will be spending their trip to New York learning more about dance in the real world.

“The team will be going to musicals and going to workshops,” Ward said. “They can get a feel for the different styles of dance and how it’s different from Texas.”

The team hopes to take a lot from the trip and learn how to apply the experience to their future.

“It’s really good to expose us to how other people do dance in theatre,” Zinsmeister said. “We can learn how they make money doing what we love.”
