Bad Weeknd for Grammys

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards was Sunday, March 14. The performances were great but after conflict with some artists that were not nominated, they have shed some light on the popularity contest.

The Grammys should have a fair voting process and have a representation of all people to make up the Academy.

The Weeknd was a face that was missing from this year’s Grammy’s. This was surprising because he had one of the biggest songs in 2020. We had him on replay all of last year. He makes phenomenal music, yet he wasn’t nominated. The Grammys had artists that we have never even heard of, yet they didn’t have the Weeknd.

“The Grammys remain corrupt,” The Weeknd says.

Due to his rejection, The Weeknd he has pulled himself out of the Grammy’s this year and from here on out.  He was very disappointed in what the academy is doing. How much longer will it take before the Grammys becomes a contest for music and not about popularity or brand.

“But I will say that we are constantly evolving. And this year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees.” The Grammys interim president Harvey Mason Jr. said.

Harry Styles, the world’s sweetheart, (and my husband) performed at the Grammys. With him being the god that he is you would think he would win the entire thing, but sadly no. Now I know that’s a bit much, but I think he should have won Album of the Year.

The Album of the Year was awarded to Taylor Swift for her Folklore album. To be honest, I have never heard any of those songs until she performed them.  I have heard Harry Styles’s “Watermelon Sugar” and “Adore You” over a million times. Luckily I can hear him 24/7, but your average joe will probably know most of the songs from involuntary influence from the radio.

The Grammys have an unknown system on how exactly they choose their nominees and winner, but I don’t want to support such unruly decisions. The Grammys are a unknow source we use to get know our type of music that is popular in our culture. To put our culture in the hands of unknown people and have them decide is kind of wack. We should decide who represents our music culture. Get rid of the Academy, and let us decide.
