Spooky time is upon us with 28 days left, but don’t wait till Oct. 31 to get scared. Here are six hauntingly good options to pick from.
Six Flags Fright Fest:
Six Flags will transform into Fright Fest Saturday, Sept. 10. Offering haunted houses, staff in fully done costumes, and a full revamp of the Fiesta Texas through the eyes of Halloween. I would definitely recommend this event to fellow spooky lovers. When I went a few years ago they had a full section of clowns and carnival-themed decor. SeaWorld Howl-O-Scream:
Seaworld will also put on a mask this Halloween becoming Howl-O-Scream. It will take place from Sept. 16 through Oct. 30 and will have a total of six haunted houses, two of which are new to Howl-O-Scream this year. My advice for the scaredy cats is to look distracted on the phone so they don’t come up and scare you while in line, my always-charged phone died that day. 13th Floor:
If you want jump scares, screams and a heart-pounding experience take a ride to the 13th Floor. Their attraction opens Sept. 17 with three new themes such as All Hallows Eve where there are undead trick-or-treaters looking for you and candy, and the longer the fall season lasts the more their numbers grow. The second theme is Outcast Carnival where the carnival went belly up and the performers were forced to live in the sewers and had no interaction with the outside, now they attack anything that comes near them. The last and definitely the scariest part for me is The Asylum. You explore the asylum as a guest, but be careful not to wander too far, for you might encounter the most delusional patients. ZooBoo:
If scary is not for you, the San Antonio Zoo will also be tapping into the Halloween spirit by turning into ZooBoo. This event opens on Sept. 17 and will last till Oct. 31. This is for kids and family-oriented activities. The scariest part will be the animals. It’s the non-scary Halloween fun option. They will have sing-alongs, a section called “Bubbling Seas ” an underwater-themed section with mermaids and pirates, or check out their new realm inspired by Dia de Los Muertos. Bootanica:
The Botanical Gardens will make you see why the living is scarier than the dead with Bootanica. Only appearing for the weekend of Oct. 15th. There will be no jumpscares, it’s for families or plant enthusiasts. You can dress up, trick-or-treat, and there will be interactive activities. They have a sensory pumpkin station, a place to paint your own pumpkin, and the staff will tell you about the scarier parts of native plants. Horrific Pix Horror Studios:
Looking a little scary in your selfies, well perfect Horrific Pix Horror Studios is exactly what you’re looking for. Located in Rolling Oaks mall you or a group of friends can choose from one of the thirteen spooky scenes provided by the studio. Take selfies, wedding photos, or even record a movie do it all. Opening on Aug. 6 they will be a permanent studio there for photography. If you check their Instagram there will even be certain days to bring your pet.
