In a home game against new district rival Burbank, the boys basketball team fell short in a back-and-forth game on Friday night, with a final score of 55-57 in favor of the Bulldogs.
“It’s just a tough loss,” senior Chris Dunn said. “I know we can play a lot better than that. I think our main problem is we came out really slow. We need to come out like we did in the third quarter. We need to play with some fire in us.”
After trailing by double digits at halftime, the Brahmas opened the third quarter with a huge scoring run, pushing the pace on the fast break, hitting threes, and getting in the paint for tough and-1’s. The team took the lead, as well as the game’s momentum away from Burbank.
“I felt like we were more energized [in the third quarter], we were ready to play,” Dunn said. “We wanted to win.”
After the run, both teams continued to trade baskets and free throws for the remainder of the game. After Burbank took the lead with less than a minute left, the Brahmas had a couple more opportunities to score, but couldn’t get a good look at the rim.
“It was a tough loss and this one’s gonna sting,” Dunn said.
Despite the loss, the team is going to be able to celebrate senior night in their next district game against Alamo Heights tonight at Littleton Gym.
“I’m very excited for senior night. It’s gonna be good to have my parents walk me down, it’ll feel nice.”
