Food, games, a haunted house, and face painting will be all the excitement at this year’s Fall Festival to be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the front parking lot .

“It is very exciting preparing and getting ready for the Fall Festival,” Student Council adviser Julie Masters said.

Student Council has hosted the Fall Fest in previous years and has decided to host it once more. It is an outreach project and a Halloween alternative for the students and Madison community for those who do not wish to get their “trick or treat” on.

“Since Halloween is on a Sunday this year, I think it is a great idea for us to be having this festival so the students [can] come here and hang all day, get their candy, play games, and all sorts of fun things like that,” Student Council Vice President Nikki Herrera said.

Some other students clubs you can see there are PALS, Sophomore Core, Baseball team, and the Animation club. You can also expect to get a little bit startled while going through the haunted house.

“I really hope we get a crown full of little kids and their family,” Masters said. “It is going to be a lot of fun with games, food, and maybe a little spooky!”

Green Chooses Nebraska

Senior Aaron Green has made many choices in his life, but arguably none bigger than his announcement about where he will go to play college football.

Green decided to make his announcement at his church Maranatha Bible church, just to “do it his way.” Where Green was surrounded by friends, family, coaches, and even former NFL great Priest Holmes. It was his day. A day that ended with him uttering the words everyone has been waiting for, “Today I decided to go to the University of Nebraska.”

Green knew what he was looking for in his college experience and must have found it at the University of Nebraska. His brother Andrew also happens to go to the University of Nebraska, but that didn’t affect his decision.

“I picked [Nebraska], because I can grow, and I want to come out and say that I’m a better man.” Green said, “I can’t go to college just because my brother goes there I had to go to the college that fits me best.”

Aaron Green will be joining a football team coached by Bo Pelini, with players such as freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez and sophomore running back Rex Burkhead.

“I feel good, I’m confident and comfortable about my pick right now,” Green said.

Even though Green’s senior season is approaching the end, the team still has two more regular season games; one against Lee this Saturday, and the other against MacArthur next week.

“It was just fun,” Green said, “It’s funner than any other level of football and I will never get this time back.”

Mavs Inch Closer To A Playoff Spot

After coming off a loss against the Judson Rockets last week, the last thing that anyone wanted the Mavs to do was to lose against the Reagan Rattlers.
The Mavs didn’t disappoint. They came out on Friday night and won their third game in distrcit, with the game concluding in a 36-28 victory for the team.
“We came out and played as a team and left with the win, and as long as we work as a team we will make it far into the playoffs,” senior Chris Graf said.
The win brought the Mavs to a 3-1 record in district with this week’s game being against Lee. If the Mavs win Saturday, they will have won their fourth district game which could allow the team to clinch a playoff spot.
“I think [making playoffs] is a great opportunity and we completely deserve it,” senior Jasper Pearson said.”We can show to everyone that we can overcome are losses and come out on top.”
The game against Lee will be held on Saturday Oct.30 at Comalander Stadium.

Volleyball Moves Ahead In Districts

The varsity volleyball team holds a record of 17-15 and being fifth in the district, the girls need to win the next two games in order to make it the playoffs. With the score 25-20 in the third game, the girls lost a really tough tournament against Reagan High School yesterday. The series will be televised on Oct. 26 on channel 988.

“[I was] really nervous because I’ve never been on TV for volleyball before and we are supposed to have lots of fans tonight,” floor captain Tanisha Johnson said.

Coach Shannon Wolfe is the new head for the Lady Mavs volleyball team. She led her last team to St. Mary’s the past two years, and her team made it to the Sweet 16 three years before that. The team has high expectations for her to do the same at Madison. Though Wolfe is at a new school with a new team, she is handling it very well.

“I love it, it has been everything I’ve dreamed of. I love the ladies and men I work with. The volleyball girls have been just as receptive as their parents,” Wolfe said.

The girls will be playing their next game Oct. 26 against MacArthur at Blossom Athletic Center followed by a next day game against Lee also at Blossom.

Many people were predicting that this week’s game against Churchill would be a win, but it didn’t turn out that way. The Mavs once again were playing to remain perfect in district, but Churchill went out and proved that they were also competitors in district.
“[Churchill] came out and played great,” senior John Pena said, “they came out and they just played to the best of their abilities.”
Churchill played a tough game, with defense being a big part as they held the Mavs to only 6 points. The score was a 19-6 loss for the Mavs.
“I feel that we, as a team, could have done a much better job than we did,” senior Jasper Pearson said. “If we won [the last game] our road [to playoffs] would have been easier, but now we have to go out and practice hard for every game.”
The loss was the Mavs first loss in district which keeps them in first place, but they are now tied for first with MacArthur.
“Since we lost we, are tied for first [in district],” said Pena, “but I think we will learn that we can’t take teams lightly and [must] out and play 100 percent always.”
The Mavs next game will be held on Friday at Comalander, and will be against Reagan.

Fighting for district supremacy, the varsity football team played the Roosevelt Roughriders Saturday in yet another district showdown.

“It’s a district game and it’s our second; with only six district games you have to win at least four to make playoffs,” coach Jim Streety said. “It’s important for district and playoffs.”

With that fact lingering above the team’s head, the team went out and pulled out a tough victory with a score of 30-20 over Roosevelt. The team was down during the half but persevered and came out on top.

Golf Season Off To A Booming Start

By Makala Finley

Reagan and Churchill are two of the area’s top contenders in golf, and its a spot they’re quite used to. On Monday, that all changed when senior Kevin Campbell stepped up and took his game to a whole new level. Campbell brought home a first place win at the junior varsity’s first tournament on a course that the team had never competed on. With this win, Campbell has earned a new spot on the varsity team, and in turn has gained more confidence to carry throughout the year.
