On Friday, the Mavs took on district rivals the Johnson Jaguars. Homecoming is a fan favorite for students and parents. Even with the huge fan base that surrounds the homecoming game, the team still plays like it’s any other game.

“We basically prepare for [homecoming] the same as every other game,” Coach Jim Streety said. “We prepare for what we think they are going to show us and adjust throughout the game.”

It appears that the team’s preparation was a success Friday night with the Mavs gaining another win with the final score being 28- 6.

“I felt that we played well and that it was good to get our first district win,” senior running back Aaron Green said.

The remainder of the season will consist of all district games.

“It [the homecoming game] was definitely important, because it was our first game in district,” senior outside linebacker Jacob Garcia said. “We are trying to make good impressions in district.”

The teams next game is against the Roosevelt Roughriders, who just beat the formerly undefeated Macarthur Brahmas. The game will be held at Heroes stadium on Oct.9.

Pep Rally Pumps It Up

On Thursday, Sept. 30, there was a Homecoming pep rally to get the campus pumped up for the game against the Johnson Jaguars. All classes participated with great sportsmanship and competitive spirit.

The students participated in an obstacle course, tug-o-war, and a potato sack race, which was won by sophomore Travis Pettit, who literally fell over the finish line.
