Red lipstick, glitter, and big smiles: thats what it’s all about for high school dancers in the district at this time. With the dollies and cheerleaders getting ready to go to nationals in Orlando Feb. 10-15, competition season is well underway.
Public performances kicked off at Blossom Athletic Center Jan. 29 and 30 when all seven of the district’s high schools — Madison MacArthur, Reagan, Johnson, Churchill, Roosevelt, and Lee gathered to put on a show that really showed unification all around. All of our four spirit groups: dollies, fillies, first ladies and cheerleaders performed their prepared competition routines.
“ All groups performed well, and there was a packed house for all three shows,” spirit coordinator, Mary Ann Barrow, said.
Each routine performed had a unique theme. The dollies performed train-themed high kick routine, the fillies a jazz routine to “wakka wakka,” the first ladies performed a military routine with the theme “par for the course,” and the cheerleaders preformed their competition routines.
All three of the dance groups will be performing these these routines at two competitions this spring. The first competition will be held at Champions High school Feb.26 in Boerne, and the second one will be March 6 at Wagner High School.
One singular sensation was a great preparation for these upcoming competitions; it was the first time they preformed the routines in front of an actual crowd.
“It’s really cool to see all your peers from different schools perform,” sophomore dollie Lillian Byas said.
