Every year, varsity looks to be first pick in playoffs. But this year, those chances were lost in a very crucial game.

On Oct. 21, the mighty Mavs took Comalander field against the Reagan Rattlers, but lost the game that would give them first pick in playoffs with a score of 17-38.

“We could have had the chance to be number one in district,” junior running back Marquis Warford said.

This game meant a lot to the team. Winning this game meant they would have broken the tie to be number one in district and to be first pick in round one of playoffs. At a point during the first half, Reagan was able to get 17 points on the board with out letting the Mavs in the end-zone. The half ended 10-31. Through the rest of the game, each team scored seven points, ending the game 17-38.

“That was a big game for us,” junior tackle Vincent Taylor said. “It was hard just knowing Madison hasn’t won district in three years.”

Varsity now has a district record of 3-1 and an overall record of 4-3. They’re looking to win the last two games of the season against Lee and MacArthur, and for the team every loss is a learning experience.

“It showed us what we still need to work on and still need to improve on,” senior running back Joshua Hanson said. “It will give as the momentum to make in to playoffs.”
