A Spook-tacular Blood Drive

There’s candy in the pantries, costumes laid out lovingly and pumpkins carved with artistic dedication. But before the boys and ghouls swarm through neighborhoods demanding candy, the blood-mobile visited Madison for a hair-raising event.

Monday, Oct. 31, the JROTC hosted a blood drive on the spookiest day of the year.

“It’s a way to give something to the community,” Itza Machado, coordinator of the event, said.

The blood drive had previously been on Oct. 20 but was moved to Halloween due to 9 week exams.

“We didn’t want to drag kids out of testing,” Master Sergeant Xavier Sandoval said. “Besides, what better day to draw blood than Halloween?”

JROTC had a goal of 150 volunteers to donate blood. While some years they have a difficult time meeting their goal, this time it looks like it will be a fang-tastic turn out.

“We have 200 sign ups,” senior Hannah Oliva said. “It’s always fun to try to beat the other schools when it comes to volunteering.”
