JV Girls Excited For District

By Brittany Weaver
The JV girls basketball team faces Churchill tonight at 7:30 p.m. as they continue their battle for district.
To start off the new year JV girls basketball faced Johnson Jan. 4 at the Madison Gym. They lost 43-39.
“[It was a] very competitive and hard-fought game,” JV coach Vanessa Villarreal said.
On Jan. 7 they beat Roosevelt 50-47 making JV 10-2.
“The game was close,” freshman Jessica Greene said. “But through the power of our coach and our fans, we made it through.”
“We had to comeback from being down by 14 at one point,” Villarreal said.
Even though the JV team is younger than most, with five freshman and six sophomores, they work well together.  Greene sees a lot of potential in her team, and she expects them to work hard and look up to others.
“Having a young team lets you learn things as you get older,” Greene said. “But the benefits of being JV lets us learn from the Varsity team as well.”

They test that tonight in the Madison gym.
“Our team is excellent. We are going to win district no matter what,” Greene said.
