It all came to this point; this was the moment when the cheerleaders would be able to show off their skills. On Feb. 9-14, JV and varsity cheerleaders competed in Orlando, Fla. at the ESPN Sports Center.

“It was a lot of work but in the end we pulled through,” said senior varsity cheerleader Karrina Moen.

After being on stage after such long practices and hard work, some were even too tired to actually perform.

“Once we got up to the stage, we are so nervous and exhausted that we sometimes forget to perform and just go through the moves,” said Moen.

When the awards were handed out on Feb. 12, Varsity received 12th in the nation and JV placed second.

“When they announced that we won second, I bawled,” said senior JV cheerleader Marlee Capistran. “It was so emotional but it was so fun and exciting.”

Capistran remembers the team being in almost a state of shock, and according to cheer coach Brandy Boyd, it was an unexpected win.

“I was extremely proud of the girls for winning second,” said Boyd. “It was completely unexpected but that made it all the better. They deserved it.”
