Knights Steele First Win, Mavs Snap Back

By Randee Schmitt

In hopes of catching up to Steele, the crowd jumped to their feet as wide receiver Dannon Cavil reached for the pass that could have well been the first touchdown for Madison. Suddenly, the crowd grew silent. The missed pass set the mod for the remainder of the game.

With a final score of 21-41, the Mavs attempted to finish strong, scoring their third touchdown with 2:35 left in the fourth quarter.

“I was excited for the first game of the year,” Cavil said. “I wasn’t expecting to get beat the way we did.”

“Despite the loss of the first game, the boys redeemed themselves in their second game against Tivy on Sept. 8. With a final score of 44-14, the uproarious cheers form the stands as the clock reached 0:00 drowned out the memory of the previous loss.

“After losing, we took a piece of humble pie,” running back Marquis Warford said. “We realized that we could be beat and had a different mindset when we came in against Tivy.”

The mighty Mavs continue tp practice and improve themselves individually and as a team in hopes of finishing the season 15 and 1.

“We expect to get better each and every week and we have to do that if we want to get where we want to be at the end of the season,” had coach Jim Streety said.

The next game will be held against New Braunfels on Sept. 14 at 7:30 pm.
