Mavericks Marches To The Beat

On Oct. 2, every NEISD high school participated in the Fall Festival at Heroes Stadium. The Maverick marching band proudly represented their school with choreographed instrumental playing.

“The band had a great performance at the Fall Festival,” assistant band director Philip Flynn said. “We were very pleased with the band’s performance.”

The band had the color guard participating with them in their routine. The color guard team practices every morning with the band to synchronize their flags and rifles to the rhythm of the beat.

“We give the band character,” junior color guard Averie Tolle said. “The band provides the music and we provide the story.”

The Fall Festival gives the district a chance to interact in a friendly rehearsal before officially competing against one another for the rest of the school year. The Mavericks made a deep impression on the other schools as they presented their mesmerizing marching skills.

“I like marching because it is fun,” freshman band member Terrill Clark-Falkquay said. “I get to meet a lot of new people.”
