Concert Rocks San Antonio

A series of beating drums, streaming guitars rifts, heavy bass and wailing lyrics filled Sunken Garden theatre and the ears of hundreds of rock fans. Wave after wave of live music from a variety of bands crashes down onto the crowd of people jumping, head banging and fist-pumping to the rhythm. One can actually feel the melody as every molecule in their body reverberates as the music goes through their veins and into their very souls until the pounding of their heart matches the fast-pace tempo of the beat.

Canadian-originated rock band, Three Days Grace, sling-shotted their way into America’s mainstream radio stations after releasing their debut album in 2003 and has since gained popularity. Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of famous guitarist Eddie Van Halen, moved on from playing in his father’s band ‘Van Halen’ and has joined ex-Creed band member Mark Tremonti’s solo career. San Antonio bands The Heroine and Memory of a Melody can draw inspiration from the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus because they too started off as a local band whose fan base slowly pushed them into stardom. 10 Years started off with Mike Underdown, Ryan Johnson, Lewis Cosby, Matt Wantland and Brian Vodinh but over the years they have replaced Underdown with Jesse Hasek and Wantland is no longer in the band anymore.

The ‘Bud Light’ sponsored 99.5 KISS ROCK to host their annual Fall Fest on Oct. 7 at the Sunken Gardens Theatre. The concert’s lineup included 10 Years, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Tremonti with local bands the Heroine and Memory of a Melody. Three Days Grace headlined for the 99.5 KISS Fall Fest.

The concert started off weak with the Heroine’s sloppy performance of spazzing around the stage and dropping the microphone. Memory of a Melody redeemed San Antonio’s status of having decent rock musicians by jamming out good songs while maintaining a level of dignity.Red Jumpsuit Apparatus lead singer, Ronnie Winter’s vocalizations clearly heard in a secluded studio could barely be heard over the audience. In contrast, lead guitarist Josh Burke showed off his skills when he played Eddie Van Halen’s guitar solo in “Rapture”.

Hasek, lead singer of 10 Years, got the viewers pumped by using eccentric tactics such as wearing a sparkly pink dress and a blonde, puffy, frizzy, wig with pink tips while walking on top of the throng of spectators. Thanks to Wolfgang Van Halen, Tremonti’s guitar expertise excelled but could have been more appreciated if the sound equipment had been up to par. Three Days Grace by far stole the show with their theatrical show of laser lights. In conclusion, 99.5 KISS Fall Fest gave San Antonio a sensational concert worth seeing.
