Wrestling Takes Down Competition

Bright lights bear down from the ceiling and the only break in the reflection on floor is the mat in the center of the gym.

This sight would not be unfamiliar to our wrestling team as they leave the locker room in anticipation of their first duel, against the MacArthur Brahmas, today. The Mavs’ wrestling team has been preparing for this duel since the first day of the season, and have even had a tournament, in preparation. The team is young in several weight classes, and for many, it will be their first match.

“My expectations for the match will be that our team will get a ton of experience,” wrestling coach Paul Miller said. “During the match, challenges that the wrestlers can face, will be trying to apply what we have learned in practice to what happens in a live competition.

Even the wrestlers themselves seem quite confident about how the duel will go. Junior David Salinas stated that the team would do just fine when asked about the match.

“We’ve been preparing all year, and we’ve been doing everything up to what I know now,” said sophomore Nicolas Gutierrez.

The team seems very well prepared, and they are scheduled to start at 5 pm today in the DEMAC.
