Breaking the Dryspell

One minute remaining in the fourth quarter, the Madison Football team pushed forward to score the winning touchdown at Lehnhoff Stadium. On Aug. 30, Madison claimed victory over Steele. The metal bleachers quaked as students, parents, and teachers alike cheered wildly in response to the announcement of Madison’s 45-46 close but hard earned victory over the Steele Knights.

“What a turn around. This is what perseverance does, “ Keith Giles, audience member, stated. “[It’s] doing what you’re trained to do.”

The odds did not appear to be in favor of the Mavericks with Steele winning decisive victories for the last three years. Early on Steele claimed plays that brought them ahead of Madison, most notably a 79 yard touchdown in the third quarter. However, this did not seem to deter football fans from coming out to cheer on the boys inspiring them to victory.

While the odds may have been low, school spirit was certainly not, between the cheerleaders amping up the crowds to the band setting a musical tone throughout the game. The Madison band played a riveting rendition of I Love Rock and Roll along with an exciting number from the dance teams and cheerleaders.

Maverick football fans hope that this most recent triumph against Steele will set the tone for the 2013 playing season and push them towards the a victory in the state championships.

“They’ll be undefeated, [they’ll be] state champions,” Tiffanie Wilson, audience member, stated. “It’s already done.”

The Madison varsity football team will play against Tivy on Friday at 7:30 at Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas.
