High School Survival Guide

If you’re looking for tips to make your freshman year easier, then you’ve come to the right place.

Always be on time to class.

Teachers don’t care whether or not your father was the inventor of toaster strudel; if you’re late to class, you will face consequences.

Accept that people will come and go.

High school is a time for change and growing up and understanding that people grow up at different times is the easiest way to accept it. In the mean time, surround yourself with people that you like; high school is too short to deal with people you don’t like.

Never listen to anyone who tries to offer you marijuana chocolate.

It just won’t end well. Hugs not drugs, kids.

Avoid the circle at all costs.

You’ll almost always be late if you’re trying to use the circle to get from one building to the next. The circle is not a standing place- walk preferably run, if possible. As much as you would like to make yourself believe, you’re probably not the most important person on campus, so just move along.

 Be smart.

DO. NOT. PROCRASTINATE. UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVER. Don’t even think about it. The mere thought of procrastination will destroy all of your further plans for the future, which is bad because you should be very concerned about your future in high school. Try to at least pretend you care. Don’t try to act like you’re the freshman who’s way too cool for school, you’ll regret it later. (In all seriousness, your freshman year happens to be the highest weight in GPA; so if you truly don’t care at least try to pretend you do so you don’t waste everyone’s time.) Do your homework, get to class, all that good stuff.

Don’t get sucked in.

Drama should definitely not be your main focus in high school, you’ve got better things to do than worry about who’s dating who. Be somebody not somebody’s; High school is not all about getting a boyfriend/girlfriend so don’t worry about it if you’re single-whatever happens, happens.

Don’t be fake.

You all know exactly what I’m talking about when I say this; don’t ditch your friends for people that may (or may not) make you more “popular”. Also, don’t forget to be yourself! It sounds really dumb and cliche but seriously, don’t be a follower. Being yourself is a very lonely because everyone’s unique but it’s very important to stay true to yourself.
