Mr. Tinker’s Continued Success

By Jissele Wright

Art isn’t anything new to Mr. Tinker, the head of the art department as well as 1 of the 3 art teachers on campus, he’s been teaching it since 1986. But not only does he teach the subject, but partakes in it himself. More recently Mr. Tinker has worked with HEB to design their reusable bags.

“One of the teachers here at Madison knew the person who’s in charge of the reusable bags and talked to them about me.” Tinker said. “They were interested in San Antonio art and so they wanted to see my work.”

Mr. Tinker’s artwork first appeared on the reusable grocery bag in 2010, and within the first 4 months sold a hundred thousand bags. Three newer designs were later added, for a total of 368,000 bags.

“All of us are professional artist and Mr. Tinker is respected. He’s been very successful with HEB and continues to work with them, which is fun for him.” Art teacher, Ms. Freeman said.

The newest bag is soon to be sold in HEB stores soon. For now though Mr. Tinker continues to work with his students and promote creativity whenever he can.
