Black History and Future

By Mikayla Garcia

Black History Month originally started on January 2nd 1970-February 28, 1970. This year it starts on February 1st-February 28th. It is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in US history.

Senior students Aubrey Palmer and Angela Elias are currently in the process of starting their own Afro Studies Club. The inspiration for starting this club is to have something to represent the Black community.

The purpose of the club is to spread awareness and inform others about African Culture. “Great things take time. Never give up on culture because it will never give up on you,” said Palmer.

The club will be sponsored by World Geography and African American Studies teacher, Mr. Salinas.
