The Madison community was full of excitement gathered at Heroes Stadium on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, as friends, family, and supporters greeted and met the Mavericks.
The annual “Meet the Mavericks” event celebrated student organizations and athletes as hundreds showed up to be introduced to this year’s student body.
As student groups stampeded through the stadium, hope and high expectations were part of the evening.
“So far at Madison, it’s been a pretty great year, I can expect a lot of good things, especially for the track team. We’re going to district this year, baby!”, said Aubry Escobedo.
The track team isn’t the only sport expecting big things. The Madison varsity volleyball team is starting off their 22-23 season eager to take home the trophy!
Sophomore Aubrey Lyssy is a setter/right side hitter for the James Madison volleyball team. Her favorite aspect of the game is “The competition and getting to play with friends,” said Aubrey Lyssy. The goals she has set for herself athletically and academically are to “Get better” and to “Get As in all of her classes”.
Marching band member, Jovanni Carranza enjoyed his final Meet the Mavs, as a student. “It’s an event not to be missed. This year, my senior year, was special,” said the senior. “Everyone was happy and having fun. It was truly an experience.”
An experience that will linger in the memory of Mavericks for a long time.
