The trapped miners in Chile and their families have received new hope in being reunited. On Wed. Sept. 29, officals told news reporters that their plans are ahead of schedule. They plan to have the tunnels drilled to bring the miners out from underground by mid-Oct. This is almost two months ahead of the originally scheduled date.
“I am hopeful that they will get the miners out by then. They have been working really hard to get them out,” Mrs. Parker, science teacher, said.
Though it is going to be finished by mid-Oct. they aren’t sure if it will be safe to bring the miners up at that date. Any unexpected problems could also slow down the process of freeing the miners, so there is no set date or time frame as to when they will finally be reunited with their families.
“I don’t think it will work. Wouldn’t they die by then?” Tyler Brown, junior, said.
The plan to rescue the miners is to drill a hole a little over two feet wide, where they will insert a capsule to bring the miners up one at a time.
“I think the families would be worried but hopeful. That is what I would feel,” Stacy Ventra, freshmen, said.
Though they had originally planned on getting the miners out in Dec. this turn of events has left their families with a new hope. Only time will tell when and how these miners will be rescued but, for now, things are looking up.
