Girls race up and down the court as the rival team chases after them. Cheers erupt from both sides as each school shows their spirit. The basketball is slammed repeatedly against the court, passed from hand to hand by each team. Basketball season is underway and the girls Rough Rider basketball teams are ecstatic.

With only two loses, Reagan and Churchill, girls varsity basketball is on the ball. Only four games left in the season, and the playoffs are in sight.

“We only have four games left and hopefully we win. If we do we will be either number 1 or number 2 in the district, which is one of the hardest districts in the state. If we are number 1 we get to go to the playoffs. It has been a long time since Roosevelt has been [to playoffs],” Robert Rheinberger, head girls basketball coach, said.

While they are an almost undefeated team they still have their weaknesses.

“They are great at defense, phenomenal, but they need to get to work on shooting. They miss easy shots and that needs to stop to win our last games,” Rheinberger, said.

Their secret is how they work together and communicate.

“We are a family. These girls are like my sisters and we act like sisters. That’s what makes it so easy to play together,” Teja Pegram, senior, said.

Over all though girls varsity basketball is doing very well. They are reaching to be the best and are achieving their best.

“They have done very well this season. There may have been a couple of mistakes but they are doing great,” Deena Kilpatrick, girls basketball coach, said.

Go cheer on your Rough Riders girls basketball and see them when they reach the top.
