Students had the opportunity to meet with college representatives from around the state and local job recruiters at this year’s College and Career Fair on Feb. 27 from 5:30-7 p.m.

College representatives offered pamphlets and flyers of information while job recruiters handed out applications and conducted interviews for on the spot hires.

“There was a lot of different colleges there so that gave students a ton of opportunities to talk to different schools that they normally would have like never heard of,” college

advisor Caitlin Heller said.

Around 50 stations were set and students were given paper passports to compel them to visit multiple tables to get the slots signed and receive extra credit.

“I really enjoyed the variety of choices the fair offered,” junior Sandra Ortiz said. “They really helped me kind of have an idea of what to do step by step to prepare for life after high school. It was really cool this year and now that I’m closer to senior year, I can determine what path I would like to go down with the career choices available for me.”

Sixty-two percent of jobs in Texas require post-secondary education and currently the state is projected to produce only 55 percent of students with this education according to https://www.texasaspires.org/resources/

“I want them to realize is that there’s a lot of options for schools out there,” Heller said. “There’s not just the big ones, UT and A&M; there’s tons and tons of different schools, and a lot of schools have specialized interests. So maybe if you wanted to do something in particular, there’s a school for that.”
