Logan Lippert, a graduate of Texas State University, will be the new college and career advisor at Roosevelt. He has an interdisciplinary degree in general studies with a combination of computer science, business administration, and german foreign language.

“I’ve been kind of in every field trying to find my niche,” Lippert said.  “I started out medical, I’ve worked in hospitals for a while, I’ve worked in the computer science field and nothing’s really been quite my fit. It was really the Trinity program after going through the training and seeing what it offered to be in the educational field that I was motivated to come out here and help the students that don’t have the help to get into college for the same reasons that I didn’t have the help.”

Lippert started out as a first-generation student unable to find help in the college admission process from an advisor.

“I went to Johnson High School and they didn’t have this program,” Lippert said. “They still don’t have this program. Over there if you’re not top 10%, they don’t even talk to you about college so it’s just the little things that add up, maybe I can give someone the chance that I didn’t have. “

Senior Camryn Elise sat in on a presentation at the college and career center to discuss the college admissions process with Mr. Lippert in her English class.

“He was telling everyone that if they had questions they could just ask,” Elise said. “ He just seemed really friendly so I guess kids will be really comfortable with him.”

Roosevelt’s school overview rating in the 2018-2019 school year was 79 out of 100 for determining how well a school prepared students for success, both in school and after high school in college, a career, or the military ( according to txschools.gov ). Three points higher than the previous year.

“My biggest hope is to get as many students enrolled in higher education that didn’t think they had the chance,” Lippert said. “I’m also here for the people that think they have the chance and just need a little extra help but my biggest goal is to push the kids that are feeling maybe they’re left out or no guidance. Doesn’t mean they don’t have the money or they don’t have the grades, it’s just they didn’t have someone to go to.”

Lippert feels pressure succeeding from the previous college advisor, Mr. Reynolds.

“Mr. Reynolds left quite a legacy so it’s a bit of pressure,” Lippert said.  “He was very popular. I’ve seen the writings that he left for me so it’s quite a bit of pressure but I think I can live up to what his expectations were and try to exceed them. My goal is to try to beat him in student applications to college. We’ll see if we get there or not but that’s a goal of mine- just get ahead and maybe progress a little more down the line.”

The college and career center is located inside the school’s counseling office.
