Visiting my grandparents can be like traveling back in time. They don’t facebook, text, twitter, Instagram or even have WiFi. The “Land Line” telephones are huge and have big numbers to help them see. Yes, “Land Lines” really do still exist. Brace yourself – they even have an answering machine – the voice mail of time past. GPS directions replaced by a paper map that can never be folded right and movie show times are looked up in the newspaper. Menu and guide on the TV is like a foreign language to them.
Spending the day with them is like accepting a technology challenge. So, what do you do when technology is unavailable? Here is what I did on my last visit to my grandparents. We played cards (Uno and Skip-Bo), dominoes, and board games (Monopoly and Life). Made delicious brownies and told ghost stories. I don’t think I could live technology- free for more than a day or two but I have to say, I really had a good time. Take the technology challenge and share with me what you did on your tech-free day!!!!
