Dana Hutchins was born in San Antonio, TX on Feb. 16th 1972. She has a younger brother named Michael, and when asked if she had any childhood memories she would like to share, she replied, “You mean when we weren’t beating each other up?” But when she was younger, on weekends she and her brother would bike to the park and play in the creek, all without parental knowledge. On vacations or holidays, they would make their own movies such as “Spy Hunter,” and some Star Trek episodes. Some of her favorite memories are

holding her niece and nephew minutes after they were born, graduating from college the same day as her mom, and going to Ranger games with her dad.

She has wonder lust. She enjoys traveling and wants to visit all 7 continents and wants to visit all major league baseball stadiums. Some other hobbies of hers are collecting VERY old cameras, like from the 20’s, reading, and taking pictures.

When asked what some of her favorite traveling memories were, she gave me a collection of stories. Some of her favorite memories were learning to be a teacher in New Zealand, going to mass in Notre Dame, Paris, and listening to the astronomical clock in Prague. Looking out over New York City from the observation deck of the world trade center. She cried when she met Mickey Mouse in Disneyland, at the age of thirty. When she was visiting her cousins in Greece, she was eating at a restaurant, watching the sun set behind the Parthenon.

To me, she has lived a full life, even though she is still young. But she’s still our amazing librarian. So when I found out how she became a librarian, I was pretty shocked. She didn’t start out as a librarian, but as a science teacher. During break period, she would always end up in the library. “One day,” she told me, “I realized I loved being in the stacks. So I went up to the librarian and asked her how to become a librarian. The next year, I became a librarian.”

I’ve always had a great respect for my librarian, but now I respect her even more, now that I know more about her. She believes that she should live each day to the fullest, and to act like every moment could be her last. So go live!
