Hotel Transylvania

by Sofia Follman

Almost everyone loves monsters for their creepy nature, but that hasn’t always been the case. In the middle ages, monsters and witches were hunted down for being creepy and different. In the movie Hotel Transylvania, monsters can finally rest in peace.

Hotel Transylvania is a five star hotel where monsters relax and enjoy themselves without having to worry about humans. The hotel is run by none other than Dracula as an attempt to protect his daughter, Mavis, from the destruction of humans. In an act to convince Mavis of the cruelty of humans, Dracula tricks her into wanting to stay at the hotel forever. Moments before Mavis’s 118th  birthday party, a human named Jonathan mistakenly arrives at the hotel. Dracula frantically disguises him as monster as Jonathan quickly discovers that the hotel is for monsters only.

Before long however, Mavis encounters Jonathan in his monster disguise. Dracula is quick to bluff that Jonathan’s name is Johnny-stein, is a relative of one of Frankenstein’s many body parts, and is at Hotel Transylvania to organize Mavis’s birthday party. Jonathan quickly becomes friends with everyone at the hotel. During Mavis’s party, Dracula accidentally lets slip that he tricked Mavis into wanting to stay at the hotel forever. In order to please Dracula, Jonathan denies his feelings for Mavis and leaves the hotel to board a plane out of the country. When Dracula realizes how close Mavis and Jonathan are, he feels guilty for coming between the two.

He convinces his friends to help find Jonathan and bring him back to Mavis. They pass through a local village that is celebrating monsters for who they are and help provide a shaded route for Dracula. Dracula then morphs into a bat to catch the plane that Jonathan is on. After being burned by the sun, he catches up with the plane and possesses the pilot to apologize to Jonathan and convince him to come back to Mavis. Jonathan agrees and Dracula makes the pilot return back to Transylvania. Jonathan and Mavis reunite and Dracula accepts their relationship and gives them his blessing. Then the entire hotel celebrates Mavis’s birthday.

Come see this hilarious tale of who monsters really are. Now showing in theaters in 3D.
