Madison Loses First Game in District

Many people were predicting that this week’s game against Churchill would be a win, but it didn’t turn out that way. The Mavs once again were playing to remain perfect in district, but Churchill went out and proved that they were also competitors in district.
“[Churchill] came out and played great,” senior John Pena said, “they came out and they just played to the best of their abilities.”
Churchill played a tough game, with defense being a big part as they held the Mavs to only 6 points. The score was a 19-6 loss for the Mavs.
“I feel that we, as a team, could have done a much better job than we did,” senior Jasper Pearson said. “If we won [the last game] our road [to playoffs] would have been easier, but now we have to go out and practice hard for every game.”
The loss was the Mavs first loss in district which keeps them in first place, but they are now tied for first with MacArthur.
“Since we lost we, are tied for first [in district],” said Pena, “but I think we will learn that we can’t take teams lightly and [must] out and play 100 percent always.”
The Mavs next game will be held on Friday at Comalander, and will be against Reagan.
