Confusing Cloud

By Skyler Molina

An unimaginable journey running through time “Cloud Atlas” creates the confusion you  never could dream of. Cloud Atlas is a lot of information to digest in only a 3 hour span. Based off of the novel written by David Mitchell, the vast story tells 6 different journeys of life all taking place through different time periods.

For starters the movie begins with Tom Hanks talking to the audience. Not much of it makes any sense at this point. Yes, it’s that type of movie, you will not understand anything. Constantly asking ‘Why?’, “Why did he do that?”, and “Why is this significant to the film?” Never ending questions until the end reveals all the answers.

It must of been hard for the directors, Tom Tykwer, Lana and Andy Wachowski, to pull off such a movie that has been called “unfilmable.” They indeed tried their best and in the 3 hours, they succeeded that in my eyes.

With a star line up like theirs, it was hard not to create such a great movie, starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, and Jim Sturgess. All incredible actors really out did themselves in this out of this world film, one of the best mystery sci-fi movies of our generations, and in my opinion definitely going to be hard to top.

Trying not to tell too much about the story because the joy for me watching the movie was figuring out what was going on, and who was who, and how all of it will get explained in the end.

Still a little confused about everything after watching it? I promise you, it is definitely a movie that you need to watch over again to observe everything a little closer, and notice all the minor details you missed the first time. Without knowing that the main line up of actors and actresses have a different part in every time period. Try to understand the full meaning of how everything interlocks whether it is by time, or by worlds. Open your mind for this movie, think very freely, try not to judge it the first time around. You must really endure what is sitting right in front of you, the true message that is trying to be sent out to your brain.

Whether in the rough times of 1849 or in post-apocalyptic 2321 they had a story to tell and this movie might just tell that perfect story.
