As the Texas heat beat down upon them, the junior varsity A-team made their way across the field. The first game of the season was against the number one 5A team, Steele, and ended with a surprising victory, Madison winning with 32-13 as the final score.

The game started off slow, but it really started up once Madison’s junior receiver Jordan McCook scored the first touchdown on the Knights, already leading 6-0. As the game progressed, sophomore quarterback Cody Ennis ran for a touchdown, sophomore receiver Kyle Southern almost threw a touchdown pass during a trick play, and junior running back Nahum Olivares ran for two touchdowns, including the final game-winning points.

“The win was so important to the team because Steele was, of course, junior varsity’s first loss in quite some time last year,” junior line backer Darien Garcia said after the win. “It’s, in a way, a redemption. I know the sophomores that played on junior varsity last year were itching for another go at Steele. We aren’t perfect, no team is, but our record will be this year.”

The next junior varsity game will be against Kerrville Tivy on September 1 at Madison.
