The U.S. Government shutdown started December 22, 2018 and lasted 35 days. President Donald Trump and Democratic politicians hit an impasse over the request for 5 billion dollars by the president for the wall on the U.S.- Mexico border. Thousands of federal workers and military personnel were affected by this poor decision by our president and the subsequent response. President Trump reopened the government departments and offices for 3 weeks after he made a deal with Congressional leaders. This shutdown is the longest shutdown the U.S. has ever come across.
