Lady Rider’s Basketball Season Ends Versus Steele

BUUUUZZZZ, the buzzer goes off, the game is over and though the scoreboard says 55-44 Cibolo Steele Lady Knights, it doesn’t say it all. It doesn’t end the special friendships that were formed during the season amongst players and the memories that will last forever from a season of ups and downs.

After posting a record of 25-11 overall, the Roosevelt Lady Riders varsity girls basketball’s season ended too abruptly for the ladies that dawn those red, white and blue jerseys. After making it to the first round of the playoffs they bowed out gracefully to Steele by ten points, despite a valiant effort by all the girls involved. That final game was much more competitive than the final score showed. With Markia Thomas, senior, leading the riders with 21 points on the board it still wasn’t enough to overcome Steele’s 11 point lead in the end.

“We need to bring the game mentally to every game,” Robert Rheinberger, head coach, said

However the game and season as a whole was pretty positive, they only lost three district games,

a great feat considering they play 12 games.

“They have exceeded all expectations and were tied for second before they playoffs in the hardest district in the area,” Rhineberger said.

However even at the final game there were still thing the riders could have done better or could have practiced more.

“We don’t shoot well, but we have excellence defense,” Rheinberger said before the game began.

The shooting became the problem in the end and the difference in the game.

We had a lot of opportunities,” Rhineberger said, “We just didn’t hit the shots.”

Irving MacArthur defeated Georgetown, 74-51, to win the Class 5A girls state basketball championship and closed out a great season for girls high school hoops across Texas.
