They all have their own reasons why they watch anime. Whether it’s because a friend introduced them to anime or just happens to flip through a channel on TV and anime is on.

“From watching Naruto; it’s how I got into Anime,” said freshman Josh Mancha.

The Isshoni Anime Society at the Molly Pruitt Library, which meets every Wednesday after school at 4:15- 6 p.m., brings together students bound by the love of anime.

The society shows movies and shows of Japanese animation films, like “Cowboy Bebop,” which premiered originally in Japan on WOWOW on Oct 24, 1998 – April 24, 1999. Later the English air date was on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim on Sept. 2, 2001- Dec. 2, 2001. Or “Durarara!!” which also aired in Japan, but on Jan. 7, 2010- August 25, 2010. The English air date was on June 25, 2011- Dec. 17, 2011. This series was aired by the MBS television network, followed by TBS, CBC, and Bandai Channel networks.

Senior Josephine Ekomo is one of the first to have come early to take a seat and wait to watch “Durarara!!” and “Accel World.”

“What I like about the anime club is that everybody here knows what you’re talking about, and you can relate to them very well,” said Ekomo.

The group is in its second year and librarian Robert Lerner said he is hoping to expand their activities this year.

“Part of this is bringing together anime people who wouldn’t necessary socialize with one another, because they are in different grade levels, [or] don’t really know each other,” librarian Robert Lerner said.

Lerner is thinking of taking the students on a field trip to an San Antonio event that features cosplay.

“San Antonio has a lot of cosplay activities…a lot. At least once every two months there is some kind of event, and they’re on weekends generally. We could do stuff like that, but the students can plan as a group, going and dressing up as a group, which is the coolest thing to do for cosplay,” said Lerner.
