Senior Boyd Spaulding comes from a family of homecoming court winners. His older sister Morgan was elected three times and won queen.
Boyd himself has been elected four times and little sister Maris has won twice as well.
“A lot of people knew my sister won and my mom thought it would be cool if I could do it,” Boyd said.
He campaigned with his running mate Mariana Wong with posters and t-shirts. When his name was called as King on Friday, he tried to remember his older sister’s advice.
“Morgan told me ‘if they call your name, look at the crowd and take it all in because before you know it, its over,'” Boyd said.
Senior Queen Daniela Briseno was also inspired by her mom who thought it would be nice to run for homecoming queen. Campaigning for homecoming queen, she made buttons, and gave out candy. Briseno also went the extra mile in meeting new people, not only to vote for her but to get to know them as well.
“I met some really cool people,” Briseno said. She said she feels accomplished to have won for homecoming queen and still to this day happy she won.
The crowning of the king and queen happened at halftime of the homecoming game Friday night against Stevens, which the Riders lost 51-15.
That didn’t stop them from a good week of dressing up,  pep rallies and a dance at the gym Saturday evening.
The full homecoming court included:
Baroness and Baron: junior Byesha White and sophomore Ricardo “Ricky” Garcia; freshmen Lady in Waiting and Earl: Kailey Dietert and Zack Torres; sophomore counts and countesses: Maris Spaulding and Derik Murphy, Nicole Meza and Abram Pena; junior dukes and duchesses:  Madison Badillo and Johnny Amar-Martinez, Andrea Villarreal and Mikyle Christian, Zoey Medley and Gabriel Jauregui; and senior princes and princesses: Sara Fagen and Jon Wilson; Mariana Wong and Boyd Spaulding (king),  Ashley Mata and Gonzalo Guajardo, and Daniela Briseno (queen) and Sebastian Torres.
