Wrestling finds success at Austin; to compete at Judson dual
By Kayla Rudd
Coming off of a great tournament last month at Austin Bowie, where the varsity wrestling team had 3 players that placed, the varsity team prepares to dual three schools at Judson tonight.
The Bowie tournament was the season opener for a team that took two seniors to state last year.
“I have had state qualifiers every year I have coached, except my first year at Johnson H.S,” said Coach Lee Miller. “I’ve been coaching over 20 years and I wrestled and played football in high school so these are the sports that I am motivated to coach.”
The varsity team placed 9th overall out of 28 teams and Johnson placed 14th.
Varsity wrestler senior RJ Herrera was one of the wrestlers who placed at the meet.
“It took me four years to get where I am today,” Said Herrera of his hard work.
The JV team will compete at Churchill tomorrow.
