The Teen Time Hat Day Creations was held during all four lunches on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 at the Molly Pruitt Library. Teen Time: Hat Day Creations was based on the actual National Hat Day, Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015.

Hats are worn for safety protection, religious reasons, ceremonial reasons, and hats are worn because of warmth and fashion.

Pirate hats were among the popular varieties at Hat Day.

“I came to this event, because I wanted to make a pirate hat,” freshman Summer Manion said.

Teens got to try their hand at millinery, but also make something to benefit elementary students. Students created hats to wear for February’s “Tell a Fairy Tale” Day. Also, they picked out a selection of hats to wear while they read selected stories that corresponded with their hat creations. In February, these readings will be shown to elementary school students.

“I wanted to come to this event, because it’s fun to do stuff that will entertain little kids,” said junior Adrienne Auten.

Librarian Rae Downen said the actual date for the ‘Tell a Fairy Tale’ will be on the Feb. 26, but students can tell their tales anytime until Feb. 15, because she has to send videos of them reading the tales to the elementary school libraries.
