Call it Valentine’s Day, Singles’ Awareness, or Library Lovers’ Month, but the Feb. 10 Teen Time brought in students in record numbers. The activity that day involved creating sand hearts.

“Since February is the month for Valentines Day and love and all that stuff, people who love the library should come to the library and use our resources, because we’re giving you love in the form of books and digital resources,” Librarian Rae Downen said.

The actual date for Valentines Day is Feb. 14, but the American Library Association has designated the entire month of February as Library Lovers Month.

“Teen Time: Valentines Day craft was not my idea this time, neither is the sand art hearts,” Downen said. “At the beginning of the school year we did some sand art with key chains and they were summer themed. We had suns, starfish, Dolphins, and clownfish. Then someone suggested that we do hearts for Valentines Day, and I found them in the Oriental Trading Magazine catalog and they were on sale so I ordered them.”

The total of students who came to Teen Time: Valentines Day Craft was 97. The average for Teen Time is 30 or 50 sometimes going as high as 60 or 70.

“I came, because I wanted to do something rather that wait for the bell to ring,” sophore, Vonyea Graham said. “I like that we get to make a colorful sand heart.”

Some students attended either to hang out with friends or to just do something new.

“I had nothing to do so I wanted to just come to Teen Time to hang out with my friends and make sand art hearts,” sophomore Diana Romero said.
