Profile – Jessica Grant Makes Science A Passion

Outgoing, grateful, loyal, dedicated, and loving, are only a few words Teacher Jessica Grant uses to describe her persona.

To her, science has always been a passion. When young, she always explored and went on adventures with her siblings. During this time, she grew interest on the body and became fascinated on how things work in general. This then led her to decide who she wanted to be.

To Grant, teaching science is one of her most favorite things.

After high school, Grant went on to college at UTEP, but later transferred to OLLU. Her time in college awarded her a bachelor of science degree in multidisciplinary science and a master’s in education in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in integrated sciences.

After college Grant began teaching science. She taught for eight and a half years here at Roosevelt before leaving to Johnson for one year, three years ago.

However, Grant returned two years ago, currently teaching chemistry.

“It felt amazing to come back,” she said.”I definitely missed the people, students, and teachers.”

With this being her second year back, she loves teaching here more than before.

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, I have a genuine care for Roosevelt students,” Grant said.”They have a big chunk of my heart.”

When she’s not teaching, Grant is adventuring, as she used to when a child, appreciating her loving family, or learning about history.

“I traveled the entire world almost already, I think that’s what made me fall in love with people and cultures,” she said.

She also loves the outdoors, group activities, excitement, challenges that push her limits and wearing hats.

Grant wears the mom hat, the sister hat, the volunteer hat, the friend hat, the aunt hat, with those only being a few of many.

“I just love wearing all these hats,” she said.

Grant is married to her husband whom she met in high school and has three children.

“She cares about her kids at school and at home,” former student Lily Carrasco said.
