While growing up, Katy Philbrick was always a quiet, hard-working person and still is.

“I was a good child, I liked to follow the rules and I haven’t changed much,” she said.

After graduating from here in 2001, she attended Texas Tech University which earned her both a master’s in architecture and in business administration.

Following college, Philbrick worked in a local architecture firm, but soon discovered her love for students and knew she had to begin teaching.

She decided to return to teach here at Roosevelt because of the campus’ great architecture program and her love for the area.

Philbrick shows her love for the campus by teaching architecture daily.

While she returned, Philbrick found lots of bonds, especially with her old instructors.

“The fact that I work with old teachers, remembering traditions that went on while I was in high school,” Philbrick said.

Philbrick began teaching architecture here over five years ago and enjoys teaching new things to her students, who recently designed the community garden that is competing for a Seeds of Change grant

“I enjoy introducing students things they don’t know about,” she said.

The same love that she has for her students, was what inspired her to become a teacher, especially because she loves working with them.

In general, Philbrick loves her life on a daily basis since she learns something new every day from her students and can communicate with them effectively as she grew up in the area.

“Growing up in the area and returning allows me to connect better with them and because I went here, they feel I know the things they know,” Philbrick said.
