Things to do during Holiday

Story and Photos by Juan Villanueva | Big Stick Editor | With lots of rain, wind, and cold in the past days, December can be felt all around the city.

During this most-celebrated month, students begin worrying about passing their semester exams and this sometimes creates a lot stress and perhaps even anger among them.

A Christmas tree stands next to the San Fernando Cathedral at Downtown.

But then come two weeks of winter break, a time meant for students to spend with their families, away from school.

During holiday, students spend their time both wrapping and unwrapping gifts for Christmas Day, celebrating the beginning of a new year and other traditions.

However, this isn’t the case for everyone as two weeks is a long time, and sometimes students get bored and run out of fun.

To make winter warmer, here are some ideas of things to do during break.

Travel anywhere

Being in a place other than home doesn’t take much to do. Go to the park, to a nearby city, hop on a random bus, visit your long lost aunt and see how they celebrate differently.

New Family Tradition!

While its traditional to celebrate Christmas Day with family, sometimes it can feel the same. Change things up this year, maybe don’t ask for a present and let your parents surprise you.

Fast food places are good beginner jobs so consider starting there.

Get a job

While break may only be two weeks long, it is a great opportunity to find a job, especially since places like malls need help for selling clothing for the season. Go now, find a job, and save some money to buy your little brother a gift.

Ride Downtown

With San Antonio being one of the biggest cities in Texas, everyone knows that everything is bigger in Texas and that means something is probably happening Downtown. Go Downtown and see the lights around the river, City Hall and how the city all comes together during holiday season.

Go Shopping

Goodwill stores are one of many that offer discounts during holiday.

With holiday season having begun a few weeks back, everyone wants new everything. Spending your time shopping isn’t a bad idea, considering that you’ll most likely find good discounts and offers for the time being.

Start a conversation

Although communicating with strangers can be intimidating for some, it can sometimes also be life-changing. You never know when you might make a good friend by complimenting their scarf.

Be lazy

It’s called break for a reason. If all the things above are too much for you to do, then don’t do any. Stay home, sleep, drink hot chocolate, grab your tablet and put on a holiday classic on Netflix.
