Nearly 20 varsity track athletes are headed to Area this week after placing in top 4 at district. They will go in 13 different events, encompassing running, throwing, and jumping.

Iesha Broussard, a senior, is excited to go to Area for high jump.

“I’m very happy because I push myself hard and I worked hard for it,” she said.

Broussard will be competing with her teammate senior Ayleen Carrizales.

On the other end of the spectrum, a freshman is headed to area as well.

“I feel good [about placing] because this is my first time ever being in varsity, and jumping [past] all of these people and being on the next level,” freshman Rashod Owens said. Owens, who will compete in long jump, set the long jump record at White Middle School.

The students will compete all day tomorrow at Rutledge Stadium. Top places will qualify for regionals.
