Varsity Football beats Clark 49-48

An intense game took place Sat. Sept. 9 at Heroes Stadium.

The Rough Riders went back and forth with Clark, scoring 12 points by the end of first quarter, 26 in the second quarter, 34 in the third quarter, and finally 49 points at the end of the game. The teams were frequently tied or within one point of each other.

“ I feel great. It’s a great win,” Tyrell Darden said, “Had a hard fought game, and the team pulled through.”

Students in the stands roared as every touchdown was made. The band played as loud as they could.

“ I was on edge of my seat, it was like back to back all the time, but it was amazing,” junior student council member Megan Palmer said. “Our football players really pulled it out.”

This win puts the Rough Riders at a record of 1-1 so far. The game left staff and fans excited about the team’s future.

“I’m overwhelmingly excited and enthused about the potential for this season,” Principal Melvin Echard said.

A total of 476 yards were completed, 50 out of those were rushes, with an average of 6.98 yards per rush. There were 127 pass yards, 57 punting yards, with an average of 28.5 yards per punt, making 2 punts total.
