The year is almost over, and that means a new round of freshmen are entering MacArthur while a class of seniors are on their way out. The Mac Arthur cheerleaders did their own rotation at their spirit banquet this past Sunday, May 16, by passing down leadership roles from current seniors to the group’s soon to be upperclassmen of the cheer team.  Inheriting graduating senior Bella Bolch’s position, junior Kaymen Fryer was awarded the title of next year’s Head Cheerleader.  Juniors Natalie James and Harley Little received the honors of Co-Head Cheerleaders in addition to Senior Class officers, sophomores Kiana Flemings and Madison Kunz will be Junior Varsity captains, and Paola Borrell will be a Junior Class Officer.

“I was shocked at first, being put into this position,” head cheerleader Kaymen Fryer said, “I’ve dreamt about this since I was a freshman. I’ve always looked up to the girls who have been in these positions and all of the seniors above me, so I guess this is a dream come true. I’m pretty excited to see what our team has in store.”

In regards to the leaving seniors, the girls admit that the team will be losing a great part of its history.

“I’m obviously sad because I feel like I’ve gotten really close to them over the four years,” co-head cheerleader Harley Little said, “They were here whenever I was starting off my freshman year, so it’ll be sad but I’m happy for them that they’re going to college.”

Besides the mixed feelings of being ‘passed the torch’, the girls are excited to start their leadership roles next year.

“I’m really excited for next year,” co-head cheerleader Natalie James said. “I feel like it’s going to be a good year, we’re all going to be a [really close] team and we’re going to achieve some great things.”

2014 has left us, but 2015 holds many new promises. The senior cheerleaders have respectfully represented MacArthur with their hard work and will be missed. However, the new generation is more than willing to fulfill the legacy of the past and bring MacArthur another successful year in the coming fall.
