To prevent students from illegally drinking and driving, Roosevelt has arranged a “project” that will take place on June 6, after graduation. Students will go to  a facility, either Dave and Busters or Main Event and stay over night from midnight to six in the morning.

“Last year’s project graduation was at the YMCA so not a lot of people decided to show up. There was an estimated amount of fifty to sixty people at last year’s project graduation. We would like for more people to show up this year so we are trying to make it cheap and fun,” Ben Pelayo, senior, said.

PTA and Pelayo have decided to create some fundraisers to help the 2013 senior class raise money to have a fun time. In April there will be a yard sale held on Roosevelt campus and anyone who would like to set up for their benefit can buy a $25 permit from PTA.

There will be a Fashion Show held here at Roosevelt on March 1 to also help raise money to help lower the prices on how much each student will have to pay.

Main Event’s current price is at $13,500 if there is a minimum of 300 students which will leave each student to pay around $45 and Dave and Buster’s price is $8,500 which will leave each student around $25.

Other schools such as Churchill, ISA, Reagan, Judson, and Wagner are having their project graduation at Main Event. The facility offers bowling, laser tag, rope course, and unlimited game play in the arcade and a banquet room that can be used for dancing or movies. There will be security, one employee per 20 kids so it’ll be safe.

There will be a pizza buffet for dinner and snacks throughout the night so no one will be hungry, unlimited soda bar and breakfast before we leave. The bowling alley will also be provided with screens that will be used for a slide show with senior pics. You can email your pictures to Jocelyn Morales at (j.morales62195@gmail.com) if you want your memories to be played that night.

Fashion Show and yard sale money will be used for project graduation, and the more money the seniors raise, the less students have to pay out of pocket. They need a $2000 deposit by May 1 so it’s crucial they raise money soon. PTA has some money but it’s not much, the more money we raise the less we have to pay.

“It’s worth it, it’s the last time other than graduation that Roosevelt’s class of 2013 will be together, after that we enjoy our summers and say goodbye to our peers with whom we have spent the past four years together and go our separate ways wether it be college, the military or the work force,” Sonja Armstrong, PTA director, said.

PTA and Pelayo are currently working on talking to people and making prices cheaper, but if you have any ideas for fundraisers or just how to help out feel free to comment below and help make this Project Graduation one to remember.
