Snap! Flash! The sound filled the auditorium as students got their pictures taken last week.

“Picture Day is a good day for the students,” secretary Laura Lopez said. “It can help them treasure the memories of high school.”

In September, the freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and faculty get their photos taken, in October, the seniors get theirs taken, and in November and December, there are retakes.

“Picture Day captures the moments in students’ lives,” English teacher Jake Gallegos said. “Some will be good and some will be bad, but it’s mostly important to remember the best times in your life.”

At Roosevelt, there is a total of 2,723 students and 388 faculty and staff members. Out of the 2,723 students, 844 are freshmen, 702 are sophomores, 513 are juniors, and 665 are seniors. Last year on Picture Day, an estimated 50 percent of the faculty and 66 percent of students got their pictures taken.

“I feel good about taking pictures, but at the same time, I don’t like being forced to smile,” senior Chloe Rosalin said. “I’m usually uncomfortable most of the time.”
While some students don’t like having their pictures taken, their role in the yearbook will be missing.

“It’s important to take pictures so we can always remember each other. In 10 years, you can look back at the people you went to school with,” journalism teacher Allison Boerger said.
