“[I’m looking foward to] celebrate what we’ve done and what we’re going to do,” Principal Justin Oxley said.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, a 50th Anniversary celebration dinner catered by Las Palapas will take place in the Churchill cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. hosted by the Charger Spirit Club. The dinner will include a fajita plate with grilled chicken/beef with onions, rice, beans, tortillas, guacamole, and salsa. Dinner tickets went on sale for $11 on Tuesday, September 13. Tickets will continue to be sold until Friday, Oct. 14 but will go up to $12 on Saturday, Oct. 15. For all of the digital lovers out there, there’s an option for you, too.

“There will be a link to purchase online at the website [http://wcpta.txpta.org.]as well as a ticket order form that will be distributed,” PTA and 50th Anniversary Committee member Laura Talley said.

Tickets will stop being sold online on Sunday, Oct. 25. The dinner will be followed by a pep rally at 7 p.m. hosted by the spirit groups. During the dinner, there will be a memorabilia walk in the gym that will include items donated over the last 50 years, pictures, school items, and other items from various sources. From 5:00-6:45 p.m., there will be a silent auction with all the proceeds going to Spirit Organizations.

“Silent auction items will include a week- long stay in a beautiful beachfront condo in Destin, Florida, ‘gift card trees’ full of hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards to area businesses, a senior photo session, jewelry, and much more,” Talley said.

This evening has people like junior drum major Paola Rodriguez looking forward to a good time.

“I’m excited to pump up the crowd and get to be a part of the Churchill tradition,” Rodriguez said.

Then on Friday, Oct. 28, there will be a the Chargers will take on MacArthur in a football game at Jerry Comalander Stadium in the Blossom Athletic Center at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, there will be a tailgate party sponsored by Churchill’s 50th Anniversary Committee in conjunction with WOAI/ Kiolbassa tailgate series in the stadium’s parking lot along with other commemorative things being done throughout the night.

“The WOAI Kilobassa Tailgate party will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Comalander Parking lot,” Talley said. “Commemorative footballs will be given to special guests at halftime.”

Also at half time, the dance and drill teams will be showing off fresh routines.

“We will have a special, never-done performance for our halftime to ‘Superstar’ and ‘Charger Tradition’,” junior drill team captain Sarah Bernal said.

Right after the game ends, the dance and drill teams will be executing their traditional Patton routine on the Comalander field.

“I’m mostly looking forward to all our stunts in Patton,” Bernal said. “We rarely do stunts, so this is my favorite because we get to show our community a different side of dance and drill.”

The festivities will continue on Saturday, Oct. 29 where alumni can receive a tour of the campus starting in the cafeteria sponsored by current NHS members.

“Parliament, PALS, and other student volunteers will walk alumni through campus allowing them to walk through the building where many of them attended high school,” Talley said.
