FCA Brings Students Together, Changes Lives

By Samantha Sanburn

Faith and sports collide with the new Fellowship of  Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter at Madison. This organization brings together students of all different sports and all different social groups and unites them in their faith.

“[To be a Christian athlete means] to walk through God with what He’s gifted you with,” senior Morgan Taplin said.

The chapter was started by boys basketball coach and English IV teacher Joshua McDaniel. Their first meeting was on Sept. 1, and at that meeting, all the new members came together with a common purpose, in a common faith.

“FCA is something very dear to my heart. So I wanted to start an active chapter,” McDaniel said.

They are still taking new members, and anyone can sign up — you don’t have to be an athlete to join.

The organization’s upcoming event is Fields of Faith. Fields of Faith is on Oct. 13 at Reagan High School. Fields of Faith is an event that occurs all across the country, on the second Wednesday every October. Schools across the country come together in an hour of prayer and worship.

“[The thing I like most about FCA] is being able to impact your school,” junior Garren Wetzel said.

The group meets each Thursday in McDaniel’s room, F32, at 8 a.m.
